I began my education with the National Learning Institute (NLI) in Mt. Laurel on August third. They set up the classes into several modules and the one I started with was called “Intro”. My instructor’s name is John Gontowicz, and he is teaching me the entire course in Microsoft. Not that I am trying to date myself, but I have not had an opportunity to further my education since I graduated high school in 1987. I had no idea what to expect and was a bit nervous to say the least.
Upon entering the classroom, I felt right at ease. The majority of the people are in the same situation I am. Unemployed and looking to better themselves. To higher their level of knowledge to increase their experience for the modern workforce. I was helped out immediately by a classmate who told me where to sit, how to log on to the proper place in the computer, and a bit about what to expect. I was ready to roll.
The first thing I became aware of extremely quickly, was that my instructor John has a plethora of insight and experience. He is truly a book full of wisdom. Note to newcomers, have a notebook. I sat in class that morning and absorbed so much information from this man, I thought that if I wasn’t taking this course I could go out the next day and find a job. My first day I was so motivated by only five hours of listening to him, I had absolutely no doubt that I had chosen the right school.
In this module you will learn everything there is to know about the computer itself. Things like RAM, Motherboard, IP address, what a virus is, how to protect your computer will make so much more sense to you than you ever realized. I found it to be the perfect fit to start my education. John gives you several websites that you can go to for even more information. I felt my brain expanding just by listening. I know keep a small black notebook with me at all times with written down websites tips he has given the class. It was any exciting eye opener for me, and I knew from listening to him that I would be looking forward to the rest of my time at NLI.
